Catha edulis, qat o khat, de la familia Celastraceae, también conocido como cat, tschat o miraa, es una fanerógama, originaria de zonas tropicales del África oriental. Es un arbusto o árbol pequeño, que crece unos 5-8 m de alto, con hojas perennes de 5-10 cm 1-4 cm. Las flores surgen en cortos racimos axilares de 4 a 8 cm de largo, pequeñas y con cinco pétalos blancos. El fruto es una cápsula trivalvada oblonga que contiene de 1 a 3 semillas.
